Cole is growing!

I feel like I just posted that Cole was 6 lbs., well he is already up to 7 lbs. and feels like a normal sized baby.  It is so crazy that at one time he got down to 2 lbs. 11 oz., he such a little fighter.

Today, Cole's head is definitely bigger than the monkey!

Cole is Offically Full Term

It is crazy to think that today was my due date, and that we have already had Cole in our lives for 7 weeks.  I am completely in awe of the miracle of life and what a fighter Cole has been over the last 7 weeks, I am so thankful that he made it through.

Cole has offically hit 6 lbs!

It official, Cole is has made it to the 6's, he is 6 lbs 3.5 oz!  He has been a champ when it comes to eating.

Cole at day 6, I did not realize how small he was

Cole today with his nice and chubby cheeks and double chin!

Despite our quarantine at home to prevent Cole from picking up any germs, he has his first little cold.  He is really congested and has pink eye (I am blaming the eye doctor who was the last person we were in contact with).  They are also testing for RSV and a couple other more serious viruses, we are praying that it is just a little common cold, I can't handle going back to the hospital.

It has been awhile!

Being at home leaves very little free time!

Cole has been doing great back at home, and his parents are slowly figuring the whole parenting thing out.  Cole had a doctor's appointment on Monday and the doctor was so impressed with his weight gain, he is now 5 lbs 10.5 oz, that we don't need to go in to see him until early May.  Cole is now officially a normal baby (he was always normal, but now we get to do the same things that full term newborns do).

Cole also had a follow up eye exam to check for ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity) and he passed with flying colors, no more eye exams for another year.  (Both James and I had to step out of the room for this exam, they used a metal utensil to keep his eyes open and he was screaming).

Relaxing before eye exam

The aftermath, he is such a champ!

Thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers, we could not have made it through the last couple of months without them.  Cole is excited to meet you all once his immune system is nice and strong.

Lots of love -

5 lbs and counting.......

James here again..

Cole had his first doctors appointment today and it went very well. Cole peed on me for the first time and then the doctors proceeded to tell us how great Cole looks and that everything looks great. the doctor was impressed with Cole's growth and progress.

He weighed in at exactly 5 lbs. today. He also measured 18" long. So just to recap, that 1lb 12oz and 2 1/4" since he was born. He is still very small but seems so large to us.

One thing the doctor did mention to us was that he would suggest limiting Cole's exposure to potential germs and infections. He simply said if Cole were to get sick, even a cold, he would be back in the hospital at his size and age, Due to this we continue to ask you understanding and patience as we continue to keep his visitors limited as he continues to grow. He also said that for some time his mother and father should be the only ones to hold him to help ensure his growth and health. This saddens us a little because it means close friends and family will continue to have to wait to hold him.

Thanks again for everything and we cant wait for his 6lb post.

Sleep Deprivation

This is James writing todays blog......

It has officially set in. Last night Michelle and I switched "shifts" with Cole every 3 hours. Eat, sleep, poop/pee. That was our evening last night and this morning. I hate to say it but you were all right. The "Fog" is upon us. We will see you all in a few years when Cole is 3 and we have somewhat of a handle on this parenting thing.

Just kidding, we did surprisingly well last night, seeing how nervous we have been about bringing him home. We both got a few hours of sleep and have a sort of routine going, which Cole continually tries to deviate from.

I woke up this morning with Cole asleep in my arms on the couch and heard the birds chirping and saw the sun and realized how crazy the last few months have been and how ironic that the first morning we had Cole home is Easter. These last few months have been a test of our faith, patience, and resolve and we feel very blessed to be where we are today, at home with our son. Thank you all for your prayer and support through this time.
